CIMS Bilaspur was established on 10 October 2001 — it is the oldest government medical college in Chhattisgarh, predating the state's other government medical colleges. MCI recognition for MBBS was granted on 23 July 2007. It is the only government medical college in Bilaspur district.

CIMS Bilaspur offers MBBS (180 seats) and MD postgraduate programme (27 seats across 9 disciplines). Admission to MBBS is via NEET UG + CG DME/MCC counselling; MD via NEET PG + CG DME PG/MCC AIQ counselling.

Annual MBBS tuition fee is approximately ₹42,000/year; total for 4.5 years is ~₹1,89,000. Hostel fee is ~₹7,800/year additionally. MD fee is approximately ₹26,000/year (~₹78,000 for 3 years). All fees are highly subsidised as a government college.
