According to MBBSCouncil preference data, MJNMCH is the second least preferred WB government medical college (after Raiganj GMC), primarily due to its remote location in Coochbehar near the Bhutan and Bangladesh borders. This is not a reflection of academic quality, infrastructure, or clinical training – it is simply a location preference.

DNB postgraduate programmes commenced from AY 2021-22. 3 candidates received PG allotment in MJNMCH via NEET PG 2021–2024 combined. MD/MS PG programmes are not yet available; DNB via NBE is the only PG pathway currently.

The college was formerly known as Coochbehar Government Medical College and Hospital (CGMCH) and has been officially renamed to Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Medical College and Hospital (MJNMCH), Coochbehar.

The total MBBS tuition fee for the entire 5.5-year programme is approximately INR 40,500 (approximately INR 9,000 per year). These are interim fees subject to revision by the State Level Fee Determination Committee, Government of West Bengal.
