The official name is Deben Mahata Government Medical College and Hospital, Purulia (DMGMCH). It is named after Dr. Deben Mahata — a legendary freedom fighter, independence activist, and social reformer from Purulia. It is also commonly referred to as Purulia Government Medical College or PGMCH.
