Dr. PSIMS & RF is sponsored by the Siddhartha Academy of General & Technical Education, Vijayawada — established in 1975, running 18 educational institutions in Krishna District and Andhra Pradesh. The medical college is named after Late Dr. Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, the Founder President who donated 31.32 acres of prime land on NH-16.

The Dr. PSIMS & RF Teaching Hospital, established in 2003, has 860 beds including 128 ICU beds equipped with modern monitoring equipment. The hospital serves 2,200+ outpatients daily with 16-slice CT, 1.5 Tesla MRI, Cathlab, and modern diagnostic labs.
