GMC Dindigul has 150 NMC-approved MBBS seats: 128 (85%) through Tamil Nadu State Quota and 22 (15%) through MCC AIQ. Being one of the larger new government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu's 2021 expansion.

MBBS interns receive approximately Rs. 23,750 per month during the 1-year compulsory rotatory medical internship (CRMI) as per Tamil Nadu Government standards.

The healthcare facility in Dindigul dates back to 1923 when a dispensary was established. It evolved into a government hospital over decades and was upgraded to Medical College status in March 2021. The first MBBS batch of 150 students was admitted in February 2022.

As of 2024-25, GMC Dindigul offers only MBBS. PG programs are expected as the college matures. The hospital's 690 beds and CEONC centre provide a foundation for future PG courses in oncology, surgery, and other specialties.
