GMC Kozhikode (Calicut Medical College) was established on August 5, 1957. The foundation stone was laid on May 29, 1957, by Governor Dr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, and the college was inaugurated by Health Minister Dr. A. R. Menon. It is the second oldest medical college in Kerala.
GMC Kozhikode admits 250 MBBS students per year — one of the highest intakes among government medical colleges in India. 212 seats (85%) are filled via Kerala State Quota (KEAM counselling) and 38 seats (15%) via All India Quota (MCC counselling).
GMC Kozhikode's teaching hospital complex has a total bed strength of 3025, making it the largest hospital in India by bed capacity.
