Admission to the flagship MBA at IIM Nagpur is through a valid CAT score. Candidates are first screened on category-wise minimum CAT percentiles, and those who qualify are called for a Personal Interview under the Common Admission Process (CAP). The final merit list is prepared using a composite score that combines CAT performance, past academic record, work experience rating, academic and gender diversity points and the interview. Selected candidates receive a provisional offer by email and confirm the seat with an offer acceptance fee of Rs 1,00,000, which is adjusted against the Term I fee.

| MBA (PGP) | CAT, then Personal Interview and composite score | Bachelor's degree with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD) or CA/ICWA/CS |
| Blended MBA | IIMNAT, past academics and Personal Interview | Bachelor's degree with 50% marks, or CA/ICWA/CS, plus 3 years' work experience |
| Executive MBA in Energy Management | IIMNAT, past academics and Personal Interview | Same as Blended MBA; must be working full-time |
| PhD (Full-Time and Executive) | CAT/GMAT/GATE/GRE/UGC-NET (JRF) score, research proposal and interview | Master's degree or equivalent with 60% marks, as per programme policy |
The Blended MBA and the Executive MBA in Energy Management use the IIMNAT, which is a 90-minute, 90-question computer-based test covering Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability and Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation, with 30 questions in each section and no negative marking. The final score is calculated as 40% test score rating, 20% past academic performance rating and 40% Personal Interview. Both programmes require a minimum of three years of full-time work experience.
Reservation follows Government of India norms: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for NC-OBC and 10% for EWS, with 5% horizontal reservation for persons with disabilities. The institute does not have a management quota, and all seats are filled on merit. Candidates must score positive marks in each CAT section, since sectional cutoffs also apply along with the overall percentile.
PhD admissions need a qualifying score in CAT, GMAT, GATE, GRE or UGC-NET (JRF), followed by evaluation of a research proposal and a Personal Interview. The application fee is separate for each programme: Rs 2,500 for the Blended MBA and Rs 2,000 for the Executive MBA in Energy Management. Candidates should keep their academic marksheets, category certificates, work experience letters and CAT scorecard ready before the interview stage.
Education loans are available from banks such as PNB, ICICI, SBI, Canara Bank and CBI, and the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme offers collateral-free loans to meritorious students. Applicants who want to understand the expected percentile levels can read the cutoff page.
