Admission to the two-year PGP at IIM Shillong is based on CAT scores and a Personal Interview. Unlike some other IIMs, IIM Shillong runs its own shortlisting, which is independent of the lists prepared by other IIMs. The institute states that candidates must hold a bachelor's degree with at least 50 percent marks, or 45 percent for SC, ST and Differently Abled candidates. Candidates in the final year of graduation may apply but must provide proof of completing their degree by 31 December of the admission year.

Admission Process at IIM Shillong
In Phase 1, every candidate who selects IIM Shillong in the CAT form and meets the minimum sectional percentiles is considered. For the 2026-28 batch the minimum was 75 in each section for the General and EWS categories, 60 for SC and 50 for ST and Differently Abled candidates. A composite score is then computed from the CAT percentile (65 percent) and a normalised application rating score (35 percent) that depends on Class X, Class XII, graduation and work experience.
| Final merit list component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| Personal Interview | 40% |
| CAT 2025 score | 40% |
| Application rating score | 10% |
| Gender score | 10% |
The shortlist for the interview is spread across academic disciplines and social categories, with 10 percent for EWS, 7.5 percent for ST, 15 percent for SC and 67.5 percent for other candidates, and 5 percent reserved for Differently Abled candidates. A gender score of 10 is awarded to candidates other than the gender with the highest share among CAT takers, to improve diversity. Minimum interview scores apply: 20 percent for DA and ST, 25 percent for SC, and 30 percent for EWS and other candidates.
The tentative timeline is shortlisting in mid-January, interviews between February and April, final offers and waitlist by early May and registration in mid to late June. Work experience counts only when supported by documents such as relieving letters, experience certificates and retirement account details. Overseas candidates can apply with a GMAT Focus score of 640 or a GMAT 10th Edition score of 690, pay an application fee of USD 100 and attend an online interview.
Executive programmes use a separate application, test scores such as WE-MAT, GMAT or CAT, and an interview. Candidates are advised to read the official admission process document for the year of application.
