Manipal Hospitals, the 2nd largest hospital chain in India with 28+ locations, traces its origins directly to Kasturba Medical College. The first Manipal Hospital was established in 1991 in Bengaluru, and KMC Hospital Attavar (Mangalore, established 1992) and KMC Hospital Ambedkar Circle (established 1997) are both teaching hospitals of KMC Mangalore. KMC Mangalore was established in 1955 when the first batch of KMC students arrived in Mangalore for clinical training at Government Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital — the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Indian medical education history.
