Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) was renamed to K.H. Patil Institute of Medical Sciences (KPIMS) effective 06 January 2026, per a Karnataka Government order. The renaming was announced on 17 March 2025 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to honour the late K.H. Patil — a former MLA and Minister from Gadag district. The BJP's Gadag district unit opposed this, demanding the college be named after local saint Pandit Puttaraja Gawai, and noting that the 54-acre campus land was donated by the Patil family while the college was established through BJP efforts by former MLA S.V. Bidaroor and ex-CM Jagadish Shettar.
