Frequently Asked Questions
Khwaja Banda Nawaz Gesu Daraz (1321–1422 CE) was a revered 15th-century Chishti Sufi saint and scholar who settled in Gulbarga (Kalaburagi) at the invitation of the Bahmani Sultan. His Dargah (sacred shrine) at Rauza-i-Buzurg in Gulbarga is one of the holiest Sufi shrines in the Deccan and receives millions of pilgrims annually. The Khaja Bandanawaz University and KBNIMS are named and located in honour of this spiritual legacy.
KBNU FMS (formerly KBNIMS) is a private Muslim Minority medical college established and managed by The Khaja Education Society. It is a constituent of Khaja Bandanawaz University — a private university established by an Act of the Karnataka State Legislature. It is NOT a government college.
KBNU FMS issues degrees from Khaja Bandanawaz University — a private university established by a Karnataka State Legislature Act. This means KBNU graduates receive KBNU degrees (not RGUHS degrees), making it structurally similar to KAHER/KMC Belgaum and JSSAHER/JSS Mysore — private university colleges rather than RGUHS-affiliated colleges. Earlier batches had RGUHS affiliation; recent and current batches receive KBNU degrees.
KBNIMS was established in the year 2000 with 100 MBBS seats. In 2021-22, NMC approved an increase to 150 MBBS seats, reflecting the college's growing reputation. It currently has 150 MBBS seats and 38 PG (MD/MS) seats in 16 disciplines.
