KIMS Koppal is a fully autonomous government medical college established and funded by the Government of Karnataka. There is no NRI or Management quota — all 150 MBBS seats are filled through KEA (State Quota, 85%) and MCC (AIQ, 15%) at government-regulated fees.

KIMS Koppal was established in 2013 by the Government of Karnataka. It is one of the newer government medical colleges in the state.

As KIMS Koppal is located in Koppal — one of the 6 Hyderabad-Karnataka (HK) region districts under Article 371(J) — 70% of its state quota MBBS seats are reserved for candidates who are domiciled in the HK region (Koppal, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgir, or Ballari) and have studied at least 7 years there. Of this 70%, 50% is General Merit HK (GM-HK) and the rest for SC/ST/OBC from HK districts. Only ~30% of state quota seats are available for non-HK Karnataka students. This is a major advantage for HK-region students — they face far less competition and can secure seats with lower NEET ranks than the general Karnataka state merit list. Additionally, 8% of state quota seats in ALL other Karnataka government medical colleges outside the HK region are also reserved for HK region candidates.

KIMS Koppal has 150 NMC-approved MBBS seats. PG (MD/MS) seats cover 14 specialties with a combined intake of approximately 60 seats: General Medicine (5), Anatomy (4), Forensic Medicine (4), Physiology (4), Anaesthesiology (4), Biochemistry (4), Pharmacology (4), Microbiology (4), Pathology (4), OBG (6), General Surgery (4), Orthopaedics (3), Paediatrics (2), and Community Medicine (2). No super-specialty courses.
