Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jajpur, was renamed to 'Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital (MJKMCH)' with effect from January 6, 2026, per official Government of Odisha notification. The name honours Maharaja Jajati Keshari — the Somavanshi ruler of ancient Odisha who established Abhinav Jajnagar (present-day Jajpur) as his kingdom's capital and commissioned construction of the Lingaraj Temple, Bhubaneswar. The name change was approved by former CM Naveen Pattnaik following a request from the people of Jajpur district.
