MMCRI holds an unparalleled place in Indian medical education history: it is the FIRST medical college in Karnataka (est. 1924), the ONLY medical college in the entire Karnataka region until 1952, and the SEVENTH oldest medical college in India. Founded by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV β€” one of India's most enlightened rulers under whose reign Mysore was called 'The Model State of India' β€” MMCRI traces its genesis to 1833 when Krishnaraja Wadiyar III established a Vaidyashala. The college was shifted from Bangalore to Mysore in 1930 on the cherished insistence of the Maharaja himself, making it 'twice born'. It was the only medical college in Karnataka until Bangalore Medical College was established in 1952.

MMCRI is a fully autonomous government medical college established and funded by the Government of Karnataka. There is NO Management or NRI quota β€” all 250 MBBS seats are through KEA (State Quota 85%) and MCC (AIQ 15%), based purely on NEET merit. It is one of Karnataka's most prestigious government medical institutions.

250 NMC-approved MBBS seats (recently expanded). 30+ MD/MS specialties and PG Diploma programmes. M.Ch Super Specialty (including Urology and Plastic Surgery). BSc Nursing and PhD programmes also offered. MMCRI is one of the only government medical colleges in Karnataka with M.Ch Super Specialty training.
