NRS Medical College was established on 1 December 1873 as Sealdah Medical School (known as Campbell Medical School during British era). After independence, it was renamed Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College in 1950 in honour of freedom fighter and renowned physician Sir Nilratan Sircar — an alumnus of the college.
NRS Medical College is ranked 44th in NIRF Medical Rankings 2024. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious government medical colleges in Eastern India.
