Admission to MD, MS, DM, MCh, and MDS programs at PGIMER Chandigarh is based on the INI CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test), conducted by AIIMS New Delhi twice a year (for January and July sessions). The INI CET July 2026 session exam is scheduled for May 16, 2026. Application fee is ₹4,000 for General/OBC and ₹3,200 for SC/ST/EWS candidates. Candidates must register at aiimsexams.ac.in.
PGIMER is a government institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and its fees are extremely nominal. The total fee for the MD course is approximately ₹12,410 for the entire 3-year duration. For DM and MCh super-specialty courses, the total fee is approximately ₹8,510. These fees cover tuition only; hostel charges (₹1,200/year for sharing) and mess (approximately ₹3,000/month) are additional and equally nominal.
PG residents (MD/MS) at PGIMER receive a competitive stipend of approximately ₹65,000–₹1,10,000 per month as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (7th CPC). This is revised periodically. DM/MCh super-specialty residents also receive stipends at similar or higher levels. Accommodation is provided on campus at minimal cost.
PGIMER is the second most competitive medical institution in India after AIIMS Delhi. For General AI category in 2024: MD General Medicine closed at rank 21, MD Radiodiagnosis at rank 13, MD Dermatology at ~45, MS General Surgery at ~175, and MS Orthopaedics at ~78. For most MD branches, a rank under 1,500 in INI CET is needed. DM/MCh ranks typically range from 91 to 3,020 for general category. For reserved categories, closing ranks are higher.
