The NMC issued the LOP on 11 April 2023. The college was inaugurated by the Odisha Chief Minister in November 2023 and admitted its first batch of 100 MBBS students in AY 2023-24.

The college is named after Saheed Rendo Majhi — the most prominent tribal freedom fighter of Kalahandi district, who suffered greatly fighting for his people and made the supreme sacrifice during the freedom struggle.

As a government college, MBBS tuition is approximately ₹30,000–₹40,000/year (some sources report total course fee of ~₹1,73,048). Hostel and miscellaneous charges are additional. Exact fees are published in the OJEEB Information Brochure each academic year.

The attached teaching hospital has 300 beds with ICU, OTs, and advanced diagnostic facilities. Daily OPD is over 650 patients from Kalahandi and surrounding areas. It provides 24/7 emergency care and covers all major clinical specialties.
