Frequently Asked Questions
SKSJTI was established in 1963, making it over 60 years old – one of the oldest engineering institutions in Bangalore, predating VTU itself (VTU was established in 1998). What makes it special: (1) Government-aided status means fees are INR 30,000/year – about 3-5x cheaper than private VTU colleges. (2) K.R. Circle central Bangalore location – no other engineering college is this centrally located. (3) 60-year alumni network deeply embedded in Karnataka's government engineering departments, PSUs like BEL, HAL, BHEL, and ISRO. (4) Institutional maturity and stability that newer colleges cannot replicate. (5) Historical connection to Karnataka's engineering heritage. The trade-off: Infrastructure may not match newer private colleges, and the campus is compact (city-center constraints). But the combination of heritage, affordability, location, and alumni network is unique.
SKSJTI is government-aided, so the fees are among the lowest in Bangalore: B.E. tuition: ~INR 30,000/year = INR 1,20,000 total for 4 years. Hostel + mess: ~INR 25,000/year = INR 1,00,000 total for 4 years. Total all-inclusive: ~INR 2,20,000 for a complete 4-year B.E. degree including hostel and food. For comparison, a private VTU college CSE seat costs INR 4-12 lakhs for tuition alone. With Karnataka SC/ST/OBC scholarships, the fee can be reduced to near zero, making SKSJTI engineering virtually free for reserved category students. This is arguably the best ROI engineering education available in Bangalore.
SKSJTI's placement scenario is different from private colleges because the student profile is different. At SKSJTI: ~65% get placed through campus drives (IT companies: Wipro, TCS, Infosys at INR 3.5-5 LPA). ~25-30% prepare for and crack government exams (GATE for PSUs like BHEL/BEL/ISRO at INR 8-15 LPA, KPSC AE/JE at INR 40K-60K/month government salary, UPSC ESE for Group A engineering services). ~5-10% pursue higher studies (M.Tech through GATE, MBA, etc.). So the 'placement rate' doesn't tell the full story – many SKSJTI students deliberately skip IT placements to prepare for government positions which pay more in the long run. At INR 30K/year fees, even a INR 3.5 LPA IT placement gives excellent ROI. And government jobs secured through competitive exams offer: job security, pension, government quarters, and INR 8-15+ LPA CTC. Newer private colleges may show higher 'average package' numbers but those come at 3-5x higher fees. SKSJTI's ROI (returns relative to investment) is among the best in Bangalore engineering.
K.R. Circle is the absolute center of Bangalore – where MG Road meets Vidhana Soudha. Benefits: (1) Walkable to Majestic (Kempegowda Bus Station) – Bangalore's largest bus terminus connecting to all parts of the city and state. (2) Multiple metro stations within walking/short bus distance (Majestic, Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha on Green/Purple Lines). (3) Adjacent to Cubbon Park – Bangalore's green lung perfect for morning walks and study breaks. (4) Near the High Court, Vidhana Soudha, and government offices – relevant for students interested in government careers. (5) Surrounded by libraries, bookshops (Majestic has the largest textbook market in Bangalore), and educational resources. (6) Multiple affordable eating options in Majestic and KR Market area. The downside: Central Bangalore means congested roads and no spacious campus. But for commuting students, no location beats K.R. Circle.
