TNMC was established on 4th September 1921 as the National Medical College, during India's Non-Cooperation Movement. It was renamed Topiwala National Medical College in 1948 following a generous donation by Seth Motiram K. Desai Topiwala. It is one of the oldest medical colleges in Mumbai.
TNMC offers 150 MBBS seats annually. 15% (approximately 23 seats) go to All India Quota via MCC, and 85% (approximately 127 seats) are filled through Maharashtra State CET Cell counselling.
Yes, TNMC has separate hostels for boys and girls. Boys have 2 hostels: a B wing hostel on campus (17 rooms) and an external hostel 2.5 km away (117 rooms). Girls' hostel at Haji Ali campus has 50 rooms, plus 48 rooms in the Nurses Quarters Building and 17 rooms in the D wing, accommodating approximately 150 girls.
