Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026: No Change in State Policy, Clarification on MCC New Rules

The Tamil Nadu Selection Committee, through its official notification dated August 3, 2026, has clarified that the recent changes introduced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for NEET UG 2026–27 such as the implementation of freeze and float options, online document verification for float candidates, and an online system for seat resignation will not impact the state counselling process for the current academic session. The notification emphasizes that these updates are applicable to All India Quota (AIQ) counselling conducted by MCC and not mandatory for state authorities to adopt immediately.
The committee further stated that Tamil Nadu already follows a well-established centralized counselling system, where document verification is conducted physically at the time of admission in the allotted colleges, and candidates are provided with options for upgradation between rounds along with an existing online resignation mechanism. Therefore, admissions to MBBS and BDS courses across government, management, minority, and NRI quotas will continue strictly as per the State Prospectus 2026–27 and relevant government orders, and any decision to align with MCC guidelines in the future will be communicated to candidates well in advance.
