What to Do After JoSAA 2026 Round 3 Allotment

Every candidate allotted a seat in Round 3 must complete the online reporting process by July 8, 2026, which includes paying the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF), confirming the seat, uploading required documents, and completing verification. Missing these steps within the given deadline leads to automatic cancellation of the allotted seat, with no reinstatement possible. Candidates must also choose a willingness option after allotment, based on whether they wish to continue in the counselling process for further rounds.

  • Freeze: Candidates accept the current seat and exit the counselling process; this is a final decision for the ongoing cycle.
  • Float: Candidates accept the current seat but remain eligible for a better seat in Rounds 4 and 5; this option costs nothing extra and is generally considered the safer choice.
  • Slide: Candidates retain their current institute but remain open to a different programme within the same institute in later rounds.
  • Withdraw: Candidates can withdraw their admission during the specified withdrawal window; a withdrawal processing charge of Rs. 7,000 is deducted before the seat acceptance fee is refunded, and withdrawn candidates are excluded from all subsequent rounds.

The withdrawal option, wherever applicable, is available from July 7 to July 8, 2026, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM IST. Candidates who do not receive a seat allotment in Round 3 remain automatically in the pool for Rounds 4 and 5 without needing to take any additional action or re-register.

JoSAA 2026 Round 3 Cutoff: Opening and Closing Ranks

Along with the Round 3 seat allotment result, JoSAA has published the opening and closing ranks for all participating institutes, categories, and quotas on josaa.admissions.nic.in. The opening and closing ranks for Round 3 typically show visible relaxation for NIT and IIIT seats compared to earlier rounds, as many candidates confirm their IIT allotments and free up seats they had provisionally held at other institutes. The cutoff for each round depends on factors such as the total number of applicants, seat availability, candidates' choice-filling preferences, category-wise reservations, and the overall difficulty level of JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2026.

Candidates should note that opening and closing ranks for the Open category represent the Common Rank List (CRL), while those for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST seats represent the respective category ranks, and ranks for PwD seats represent PwD ranks within their respective categories. A rank suffixed with 'P' indicates that it belongs to the Preparatory Rank List.

JoSAA 2026: Institutes and Seats Covered
