UPTAC 2026 registration is live right now and the first thing most students ask after landing on the portal is: what documents do I actually need? A rejected upload during verification means you lose time, miss the June 20 deadline, and potentially lose your shot at choice filling entirely. This checklist covers every document you need — what it should look like, in what format, and what category-specific extras apply.
If you haven't registered yet, read the UPTAC 2026 registration step-by-step guide first. Registration and document upload both have to be completed before June 15, 2026 on the official portal uptac.samarth.edu.in.

Mandatory Documents — Every Candidate Needs These

1. JEE Main 2026 Scorecard

This is your entry ticket. Download the official scorecard from jeemain.nta.ac.in. The scorecard contains your application number, NTA score, All India Rank, and category rank — all of which are checked during verification. Screenshots or photos of the scorecard are not accepted. Download the original PDF.
If you appeared in both Session 1 and Session 2 of JEE Main 2026, the better of your two scores is automatically considered. Upload the scorecard showing the higher NTA score.

2. JEE Main 2026 Admit Card

Keep this alongside your scorecard. Document verifiers cross-reference the admit card details with the scorecard and registration form. The application number on all three must match exactly.

3. Class 10 Marksheet and Passing Certificate

You need both documents separately — the marksheet (subject-wise grades) and the passing/board certificate (the formal document stating you passed Class 10). These are used to verify your date of birth, school board, and identity details.

4. Class 12 Marksheet and Passing Certificate

Again, both are required. The marksheet must show Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) marks for B.Tech eligibility. The minimum aggregate requirement is typically 45% for General/OBC and 40% for SC/ST candidates — verify exact thresholds in the official AKTU brochure.

5. Passport-size Photograph

The photograph must be:
  • Recent (taken within the last 6 months)
  • White or light-coloured background
  • Clear face visibility — no sunglasses, caps, or heavy filters
  • Scanned in colour, not black-and-white
  • File format: JPG/JPEG
  • File size: Usually 10 KB to 200 KB (check portal for exact limit)
  • Dimensions: 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm standard passport size

6. Signature on White Paper

Sign your full name on plain white paper using black or blue ink. The signature must:
  • Not be in capital letters (cursive signature preferred)
  • Be on a plain white, unlined background
  • Scan cleanly without shadows, creases, or smudges
  • File format: JPG/JPEG
  • File size: Usually 4 KB to 50 KB

7. Character Certificate

Issued by the principal or head of the last institution you attended (your school or college). It confirms you are a student of good character and conduct. Get this signed and stamped — a photocopy without a fresh signature is usually rejected.

Category-Specific Documents

Domicile / Residence Certificate (for UP Priority)

If you want to claim priority as a UP domicile student, you need a valid domicile or residence certificate issued by a competent authority in Uttar Pradesh (Tehsildar or SDM level). This determines whether you're considered under the UP category in main counselling rounds. Without it, you're treated as an outside-state candidate and compete only in special rounds.

OBC (Other Backward Class) Certificate

Must be a Central OBC certificate (not state-level OBC certificate, which is different). It must be current and issued by an authorized government officer. The certificate should specifically state 'OBC – Non Creamy Layer' if that's your category. Verify it hasn't expired — many OBC certificates are valid only for a fixed period.

SC / ST Certificate

Issued by the appropriate government authority. For UP-based candidates, this is typically the SDM or District Magistrate. The caste name on the certificate must match the central government-approved caste list. A wrong caste name (even a spelling variation) can lead to rejection.

EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Certificate

Must be issued in the current financial year (2025–26). EWS certificates from previous years are not valid. The income of your entire family must be below ₹8 lakh annually, and your family must not own agricultural land or urban property beyond specified limits. Get this from your Tehsildar or SDM.

Disability Certificate (PwD candidates)

Issued by a government hospital or medical board, showing the type and percentage of disability. The minimum disability percentage for PwD reservation is 40%. This must be a current certificate issued from a recognized medical authority.

Documents for Lateral Entry Candidates (2nd Year B.Tech)

If you're applying for lateral entry (direct second-year B.Tech), the documents are slightly different:
  • Diploma certificate and all semester marksheets from an AICTE-approved polytechnic
  • Class 10 marksheet and certificate
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Character certificate from the polytechnic
  • Domicile certificate (for UP priority)

How to Scan Documents — File Format & Size Guide

Document rejection is frustrating and avoidable. Here's how to get it right the first time:

Tip: Use a free mobile scanning app (like Adobe Scan or CamScanner) to scan physical documents. Place the document on a flat, well-lit surface. Avoid scanning under tube lights that cause uneven shadows on the page.

What Happens During UPTAC Document Verification?

Document verification runs from May 28 to June 20, 2026. The Central Document Verification Team (CDVT) reviews all uploaded files online. You don't need to go anywhere — it's fully online at this stage. Physical document verification happens only at the time of actual college reporting after seat allotment.
  • Verified successfully: You get an SMS and email confirmation. You can proceed to choice filling from June 22.
  • Documents flagged or rejected: The portal shows the reason. You get a correction window before June 20 to re-upload.
  • Not verified by June 20: You are locked out of choice filling. You cannot participate in any round of UPTAC 2026.
Check your registered email and phone every day between May 28 and June 20. Don't let a verification rejection sit in your inbox unread.

Physical Documents at College Reporting

Even after online verification, you carry originals and photocopies to the college at the time of physical reporting. Most colleges ask for:
  • All original documents listed above
  • 3–4 sets of self-attested photocopies of each
  • UPTAC 2026 allotment letter (downloaded from the portal)
  • Passport-size photographs (usually 6–10 copies)
  • ID proof — Aadhaar card or PAN card
  • Migration certificate from your previous institution (required at the time of admission, not at registration)
