About BMS College of Engineering
BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), officially known as Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah College of Engineering, is one of India's oldest, most respected, and most storied private engineering institutions. Founded in 1946 by the visionary educationist Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah, BMSCE holds the distinguished distinction of being the first private sector initiative in engineering education in India. Over nearly eight decades, it has grown from offering just three undergraduate programmes — Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering — into a comprehensive technical institution offering 14 undergraduate B.E. programmes and 15 postgraduate M.Tech/MBA/MCA programmes, along with doctoral research opportunities across 14 departments recognised as research centres. Located at Bull Temple Road in the historic Basavanagudi neighbourhood of Bengaluru, Karnataka, BMSCE sits at the heart of India's technology capital, diagonally opposite the famous Bull Temple. The campus is spread across approximately 11 hectares and is run by the B.M.S. Educational Trust, a body that also manages BMS Institute of Technology and Management (BMSIT) and BMS Hospital. Though a private institution, BMSCE receives partial funding from the Government of Karnataka, reflecting the state's recognition of its significant contribution to technical education. In 2008, VTU conferred autonomous status on BMSCE, enabling the college to design and implement its own curriculum, conduct independent examinations, and award degrees under VTU affiliation. Accreditation at BMSCE is among the strongest in Karnataka: NAAC 'A++' Grade (the highest), NBA accreditation for multiple programmes, AICTE approval, and UGC recognition together make it one of the most thoroughly evaluated and validated engineering colleges in South India. As per NIRF 2025, BMSCE is ranked in the 151–200 band in Engineering among all Indian engineering colleges — a strong showing for a private, affiliated institution competing alongside centrally funded IITs, NITs, and IIITs. The B.E. undergraduate programmes at BMSCE span a wide range of specialisations: Aerospace Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML), Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), Information Science and Engineering (ISE), Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (EIE), Mechanical Engineering, Medical Electronics, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The allied departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Humanities provide the foundational academic support across all engineering disciplines. Fee structures at BMSCE vary significantly by admission quota. Under the Government (KCET) quota, annual tuition is approximately INR 58,806 — a highly subsidised rate set by Karnataka's fee regulatory committee. Under the Private (COMEDK) quota, annual tuition is approximately INR 2,01,960. Management Quota fees are significantly higher, ranging from INR 2.5 lakh to INR 10 lakh per year depending on the branch — with CSE being the highest at approximately INR 10 lakh per year. Hostel fees are approximately INR 1.20–2.24 lakh per year including mess charges. Placements at BMSCE are managed by the Training and Placement Cell, established in 1995 — one of the longest-running dedicated placement cells at any private engineering college in Karnataka. With over 18,500 cumulative offers since inception and 383 recruiters visiting in 2025, BMSCE has built a robust placement ecosystem. In the 2025 placement season, 968 students were placed out of 1,307 offers from 383 companies, with the highest package reaching INR 51.5 LPA and the overall average package at INR 11.4 LPA. Internship offers in 2025 numbered 775, with the highest internship stipend reaching INR 98,000 per month. Top recruiters include Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Adobe, Samsung R&D, Mercedes-Benz R&D, Cisco, Nutanix, Oracle, Atlassian, JP Morgan, Qualcomm, Bosch, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Deloitte, and many more. The campus facilities at BMSCE are comprehensive and distinctive. The BMS Hospital — established in 1991 and located adjacent to the campus — provides 24×7 emergency care, operation theatres, ICU, radiology, dentistry, cosmetology, pharmacy, and specialized clinical services to the campus community. The Central Library holds over 1,50,000 volumes, 47,000+ titles, 175 printed journals, 7,500 e-journals, 21,000+ e-books, and 11 digital e-resources. Hostels (2 boys' hostels and 3 girls' hostels) are spread across 5 units with TV lounges, solar water heaters, gymnasiums, WiFi, RO water, and washing machines. The campus also includes an indoor sports stadium, extensive outdoor sports facilities, an auditorium, seminar halls, and a Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) supporting student startups. The annual Utsav cultural festival, started in 1973, is one of Bangalore's oldest and most celebrated college cultural events, attracting participants from IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, and institutions across South India.
