About Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women
Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) is India's first and only women-exclusive technical university, established by the Government of NCT of Delhi. Originally founded in 1998 as the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) as a constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), the institution was elevated to an autonomous university status in 2013 under the Delhi Act 09 of 2012 and renamed IGDTUW. Located in the heart of Delhi at Kashmere Gate, adjacent to the historic St. James Church, the university occupies a compact yet well-equipped campus of approximately 60 acres. IGDTUW stands as a symbol of women's empowerment in technical education in India. Its mission is to create a knowledge-driven society by nurturing technically competent and socially responsible women professionals. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, and doctoral programmes across engineering, management, architecture, planning, and sciences – all exclusively for female candidates. This unique positioning has earned the institution significant national and global recognition. In terms of accreditations, IGDTUW holds a NAAC A+ Grade, NBA accreditation for multiple programmes, and is ISO 9001:2015 certified. The university has received several prestigious recognitions: it was ranked 40th globally and 8th for Entrepreneurial Spirit in the WURI World University Rankings 2023 for Innovative Universities; ranked 43rd worldwide for innovation in WURI 2024 International Rankings; awarded Diamond Rating by QS I-Gauge; earned the Platinum Band – Institute of Prominence in the Outcome Based Education Ranking 2024; received NPTEL "A" Grade for Jan–April 2024; and was recognised by MCD Delhi as a Zero Waste and Zero Plastic Campus in 2023. As per NIRF 2025, IGDTUW is placed in the 201–300 band in the Engineering category. The academic portfolio at IGDTUW is diverse. At the undergraduate level, the university offers B.Tech in eight specialisations including Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), ECE – Artificial Intelligence, IT – Cyber Security, Mechanical and Automation Engineering (MAE), and Civil Engineering; B.Arch in Architecture; and BBA in six specialisations including Finance, Marketing, HR, IEV (Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Ventures), Business Analytics, and Management of Global Business.
