About Jamia Millia Islamia University

Official website

The Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is one of India's premier public engineering institutions, established in 1985 as part of Jamia Millia Islamia — a Central University created by an Act of Parliament in 1988 and NAAC A++ accredited. FET JMI is ranked #27 in Engineering by NIRF 2025 and #24 in Engineering by NIRF 2024 — the second-best engineering college in Delhi after IIT Delhi. It is ranked 401–500 globally in Engineering & Technology and #11 among all higher education institutions in India by Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Rankings 2025. FET JMI is home to over 2,000 students, 130+ faculty members engaged in cutting-edge research, and 200+ academic, administrative, and technical staff across seven departments: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Applied Sciences & Humanities. It offers 8 B.Tech programmes (5 regular + 3 self-financed), Evening B.E. courses for working professionals, M.Tech (10+ specializations — both regular and self-financed), Ph.D., and Diploma (Polytechnic). An IAF MiG-23 aircraft gifted in 2010 is on display at the faculty — a landmark feature. What makes FET JMI exceptional is its highly affordable fee structure: B.Tech regular annual fee is just Rs. 19,225/year for first year (Rs. 13,325 from 2nd year onwards) — under Rs. 1 lakh total for 4 years — making it one of the most affordable quality engineering programmes in India. Self-financed B.Tech branches (Data Sciences, Robotics & AI, ECE VLSI, Civil Construction Technology, Electrical & Computer Engineering) charge Rs. 1,52,875/year. JMI also offers 50% reservation for Muslim minority students across all regular B.Tech programmes — a unique characteristic as it is a Minority Central University. Additional reservations exist for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, Jammu & Kashmir, PWD, and NRI/Foreign candidates. Admission is via JEE Main rank + JMI separate counselling (admission.jmi.ac.in) — General candidates need 95 percentile and above in JEE Main for Computer Engineering. Placements have been growing strongly. In 2024 (2024 batch), B.Tech highest package was Rs. 59.91 LPA (Computer Engineering — offered by Atlassian), B.Tech median package Rs. 13.78 LPA (NIRF 2025). In 2024-25 Phase 1 (2025 batch): highest Rs. 24.5 LPA (Homecentre Landmark), Cisco Rs. 24 LPA, 40 companies participated. NIRF 2025: 2,082 out of 3,114 eligible students placed university-wide. Top recruiters include Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, Siemens, Cisco, Atlassian, KPMG, Accenture, TCS, Infosys, and Samsung. The campus has Nawab Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi Sports Complex — one of the finest university sports complexes in India — which hosted Ranji Trophy matches and Commonwealth Games 2010 rugby practice.
