Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya (MMYVV), Karaundi - Overview
MMYVV is recognised by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. Its teacher education programmes, namely B.Ed, B.A. B.Ed and B.El.Ed, are recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education. The university has jurisdiction over the entire state of Madhya Pradesh, and it started a Directorate of Distance Education in 2006 so that working professionals, homemakers and rural students can study without attending regular classes. The university states that its aim is to bring Vedic science and its technologies into mainstream higher education and to offer life-oriented education that develops the full potential of the learner.
The academic profile of MMYVV is unusual because it combines traditional Vedic studies with modern subjects. On the Vedic side, it offers Ph.D., Acharya, Shastri, Praman Patra and diploma programmes in Ved, Jyotish, Yog, Sthapatya Ved (Vastu), Yagyanushthan, Maharishi Ved Vigyan and related areas. On the modern side, it offers degrees in arts, science, commerce, management, computer applications, social work, library science, education and physical education, along with more than fifty short certificate courses. Tuition is very low compared with most universities, and the Acharya programmes cost about Rs. 1,350 per semester.
