The college grew out of the historic Holkar College, which opened in 1891 with faculties of Science, Arts, Commerce and Law. As student numbers rose, a new building was planned; its foundation stone was laid by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 3 November 1958 and it was inaugurated by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on 25 December 1960. The Law department became a separate Law College in April 2003. Today the college follows the motto 'Na Gyanen Sadrusham Pavithram Iha Vidyate' - nothing is more sacred than knowledge.
The sprawling campus includes a large playground, gardens and four academic buildings, with separate blocks for administration, NCC, NSS and sports. According to the college, 11 departments are authorised research centres, 53 teachers hold a Ph.D. and 30 teachers act as research guides. The college also airs GACC ABC News from its own studio on campus, a first among government colleges.
Students can choose from BA, B.Com, BBA, BSW, B.Sc., BJ and a wide range of postgraduate programmes including MA, MSW, MBA, M.Com, MJ and PG diplomas. Annual fees are among the most affordable in the region - see the detailed course fee structure before applying. Supporting infrastructure such as a 2 lakh+ volume library, computer labs and an English language lab is covered on the campus facilities page.
Admission is handled through the MP e-Pravesh portal; complete eligibility and steps are on the admission process page. The college does not follow an entrance-rank system, so there is no traditional cutoff list to track. Career-oriented activities, job fairs and training sessions are explained on the placements and career support page.
Financial assistance is available through several government schemes listed under scholarships, and the college's NAAC grades and PM College of Excellence status are summarised on the rankings and approvals page. With a rich legacy, active NCC/NSS units, sports achievements and a strong cultural calendar, SABV GACC remains a preferred choice for students in Indore seeking affordable government education.
