NMC Grants One Additional Attempt to Eligible MBBS Students for First Professional Exam: Check Conditions

The National Medical Commission (NMC), through its Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), issued a public notice on 15 October 2026 granting one additional mercy attempt to eligible MBBS students admitted from the academic year 2019–20 onwards. The relaxation applies to students who need to pass the First Professional MBBS Examination and is subject to the conditions specified in the notice. The decision follows representations from students, universities and other stakeholders seeking additional opportunities due to exceptional circumstances, including disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, health-related issues and other personal difficulties. The relaxation is intended for eligible students admitted to MBBS from the academic year 2019–20 onwards who have pending cases involving the First Professional MBBS Examination. Students must satisfy the conditions specified by the NMC. In particular, their admission must remain valid, and they must not have exhausted the maximum five attempts. The notice does not grant an additional attempt to students who have already used a mercy attempt and completed all five attempts
