Tamil Nadu Medical Admissions 2026: SC/ST Candidates Exempted from Upfront Fees Under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme
The Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Chennai, has issued a notification directing self-financing medical and dental colleges and State Private Universities to follow the fee exemption provisions under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.
The notification, dated September 25, 2026, applies to eligible candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyar (SCA), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and SCC categories who are residents of Tamil Nadu and whose parents' annual income is below ₹2.50 lakh.
According to the notification, eligible candidates must be admitted without being asked to pay tuition fees, development fees, and other non-refundable fees fixed by the Fee Fixation Committee upfront.
The concerned colleges are required to process or facilitate the candidates' Post Matric Scholarship claims within the prescribed time. The notification further clarifies that government reimbursement will take place after admission and cannot be made a precondition for granting admission.
The notice also specifies that tuition fees should be charged only for 4½ years of academic study, as applicable under National Medical Commission norms. No tuition fee should be collected for the one-year compulsory Rotating Medical Internship.
The Selection Committee has warned institutions that complaints regarding violations of these directions will be viewed seriously and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
Eligible candidates should check the applicable scholarship requirements and contact their allotted institution for information about the admission and scholarship process.
