The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is releasing the Round 5 seat allotment result for the 2026 counselling cycle today, July 16. This is the final round of JoSAA counselling for admission to IITs, IISc Bengaluru, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Candidates can check their status by logging in at the official JoSAA portal using their JEE Main or JEE Advanced credentials. JoSAA manages centralised admission across 138 participating institutes in total — 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 56 other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). The Joint Admission Board (JAB) sets policy for IIT seat allocation, while the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) governs NIT, IIIT and GFTI allocation. JoSAA is the joint body that runs the actual counselling process on their behalf. Because millions of candidates try to check their result at the same time, the portal often slows down in the first hour or two after release if login fails, wait a few minutes and retry instead of assuming there's a problem with your account.

Round 5 Result: What's New

Round 5 is the last allotment round of the year, so there is no Float or Slide option this time. Candidates must either accept the seat by paying the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) and completing document upload, or exit JoSAA altogether. Round 5 also carries the most relaxed closing ranks of the cycle for NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats. For a full breakdown of how this round's cutoffs compare with earlier rounds, see our JoSAA 2026 full schedule and round-wise dates Round 5 seats are not new seats they come from candidates who upgraded out during Rounds 3 and 4, candidates who withdrew, and choices that stayed unfilled in earlier rounds because no eligible candidate had listed them. This is why Round 5 often opens up institute branch combinations that weren't visible earlier in the cycle. Candidates who chose Float in Round 4 either get upgraded to a higher preference choice today or have their existing allotment confirmed as final if nothing better opened up.

Reporting Deadline & Fees

The Seat Acceptance Fee is ₹30,000 for General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, and ₹15,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Candidates who already paid the SAF in an earlier round do not need to pay again. Online reporting for Round 5 is expected to close by July 20, 2026, 5:00 PM IST missing this deadline results in permanent cancellation of the allotted seat. Read the complete step-by-step reporting process on our JoSAA seat acceptance & document verification guide."

Category Certificate Rules for OBC-NCL and EWS Candidates

OBC-NCL and EWS category certificates must be dated on or after April 1, 2026 to be accepted during document verification. A certificate issued even one day before that cutoff will be rejected, regardless of how recently it was renewed. Candidates whose certificate predates April 1, 2026, or is close to expiring, should obtain a fresh one from the competent authority well before the reporting deadline.

Common Mistakes to Avoid Today

  • Assuming Float/Slide is still active , it isn't in Round 5
  • Delaying SAF payment if you're a fresh allottee today
  • Ignoring document verification flags, which can cost you the seat
  • Using an OBC-NCL/EWS certificate dated before April 1, 2026
  • Not saving the provisional allotment letter for later physical reporting

Candidates who do not secure an NIT, IIIT or GFTI seat after Round 5 can look at vacant-seat rounds conducted separately. Check eligibility and dates on the official JoSAA schedule page, and track further updates on our exam notifications section.
