MBA vs PGDM: Why It Matters
An MBA is awarded by a university or university-affiliated college. A PGDM is a diploma awarded by an autonomous institute approved by AICTE. Both are widely accepted by recruiters, but PGDM colleges can update their syllabus faster, while MBA degrees may be needed for some PhD or government job routes. Check the exact programme name, not just the college name.
Eligibility, Selection Process and Cutoff Trends
- Complete graduation (final-year students can usually apply, with minimum marks required by each college, commonly 50%).
- Register and appear for XAT 2027 on the notified date.
- Apply separately to every college you want. XAT registration does not apply to colleges automatically.
- Clear the college's shortlisting, usually a Group Discussion, Personal Interview or Written Ability Test.
- Pay the admission fee before the college's deadline, since each institute sets its own timeline.
XAT does not publish category-wise college cutoffs. Colleges set their own. A simple ROI check: divide total cost (fees plus hostel) by expected annual salary. If the answer is above 1.5, think twice. For example, ₹9 lakh total cost with a ₹7 LPA average package gives about 1.3, which is manageable. A ₹9 lakh total cost with a ₹4 LPA package gives 2.25, which is risky.
