NEET UG remains the single largest medical entrance exam in India, opening the door to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and several allied health programmes. But qualifying NEET is only half the journey — for meritorious students from financially constrained backgrounds, a separate set of national-level scholarship exams can fund tuition fees, hostel costs, and in some cases even laptops or tablets. This guide breaks down every major NEET Scholarship 2026-27 scheme: how each one works, who is eligible, the exam pattern, and the exact steps to apply. For where you stand after the exam itself, see our breakdown of the NEET 2026 expected cutoff category-wise and the NEET UG Counselling 2026 complete guide.

What Is a NEET Scholarship, and Why Does It Matter for 2026-27?

A NEET scholarship is not the same thing as your NEET UG rank. These are separate, merit-based entrance tests and welfare schemes designed specifically to fund MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and BUMS education for students who need financial support to actually take up a seat once they qualify NEET. Some schemes waive tuition in full, some cover it partially, and a few offer devices or monthly stipends instead. Since the majority of government MBBS seats are filled through state quota rather than the All India Quota counselling process, pairing your NEET marks-to-rank estimate with a clear scholarship plan gives you a much fuller financial picture before counselling rounds begin.

Meritorious students under CSSS are given scholarships worth Rs 12,000 per annum for the first three years of their NEET-based course at the graduate level.

How These NEET Scholarships Fit Into Your MBBS/BDS Fee Planning

MBBS fees swing enormously across India, and a scholarship only matters once you know where it can actually be applied. At the affordable end, government institutes like AIIMS Kalyani and Government Medical College, Nashik charge highly subsidised annual fees, so scholarship money stretches much further there than at a private college. Newer government colleges such as Mahatma Vidur Autonomous State Medical College, Bijnor and Maharishi Chyawan Medical College, Koriawas also run their own institute-specific fee waivers alongside these national schemes. At municipal colleges like HBT Medical College (Cooper Hospital), Mumbai and Seth GS Medical College (KEM), Mumbai, reserved-category students already receive near-total fee waivers through state portals, so a NEET scholarship works best as a top-up for hostel or living costs. At private colleges such as Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College, Moradabad, where annual tuition runs into several lakhs, even a partial scholarship meaningfully reduces the loan burden on a family. Before shortlisting, it's worth comparing the scholarship and fee details on individual college pages, such as Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Nashik, since most institutes list their own merit-based waivers alongside these national scholarship schemes.

How to Apply for NEET Scholarship 2026-27 — Step by Step

  1. Visit the official website of the specific scholarship scheme (linked in the table above) — never apply through a third-party or unofficial link.
  2. Register with your basic details and create a login for the application portal.
  3. Fill in academic details, including Class 12 marks and NEET application/roll number where applicable.
  4. Upload scanned documents: photograph, signature, mark sheets, income certificate, category certificate (if applicable), and Aadhaar card.
  5. Pay the application fee, if any, through the accepted online payment modes.
  6. Review all entries carefully before final submission — most portals do not allow edits after submission.
  7. Download and save the confirmation/acknowledgement page for future reference.
  8. Appear for the scholarship exam (where applicable) on the scheduled date, and track results and disbursement status through the same portal.
A NEET scholarship does not replace hard work on the exam itself — it protects the seat you have already earned by removing the financial barrier between qualifying and actually enrolling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a NEET scholarship the same as my NEET UG rank or counselling?

No. Your NEET UG rank determines which college and quota you are eligible for through counselling. A NEET scholarship is a separate exam or scheme that provides financial support — such as fee waivers, stipends, or devices — once you have a seat. The two processes run independently and you can apply for a scholarship regardless of your NEET rank, as long as you meet its eligibility criteria.

Can I apply for more than one NEET scholarship exam in 2026-27?

In most cases, yes — schemes like AIMSET, AIPMST Secondary and AIYSEE are run by different bodies and can generally be applied to independently. However, government schemes such as the Central Sector Scheme typically require you to declare that you are not already availing another central or state scholarship, so read each scheme's terms carefully before applying to multiple programmes.

Do NEET scholarships cover MBBS fees at private and deemed medical colleges too?

It depends on the scheme. Some, like AIMSET and AIPMST Secondary, explicitly cover a percentage of tuition fees at private colleges (usually lower than the government-college benefit). State-specific schemes such as the Combined Counselling Board scholarship are typically tied to CCB-associated colleges. Always check the scheme's official terms for which colleges and course types are covered before assuming eligibility.

What documents are commonly required for NEET scholarship applications?

Most schemes ask for a recent passport-size photograph, signature, Class 12 mark sheet, category certificate (if applicable), family income certificate, Aadhaar card, and, once you have one, your NEET UG admit card or result. Some schemes also require a bonafide or admission certificate from your college after counselling.

When should I start applying for NEET Scholarship 2026-27?

Applications for most of these scholarship exams open several months before the scholarship test itself, often overlapping with Class 12 board exam season. It's best to register on the official scholarship websites as soon as applications open, since many schemes work on a first-come or limited-seats basis within each merit section.
