About Armed Forces Medical College, Pune

Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, is one of India's premier military medical institutions, established in May 1948 under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Located on an eco-friendly, fully residential campus of approximately 119 acres at Ramtekri in Eastern Pune, AFMC was created on the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee after World War II by amalgamating remnants of Indian Army Medical Corps units. The undergraduate wing was established on 4 August 1962, which is celebrated annually as AFMC Day. Affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), AFMC is NAAC Grade A+ accredited and ranked among the top medical colleges in India. The college has 29 medical departments, a central library with 50,000+ books, two auditoriums (Bharadwaj & Dhanvantari) each seating 1,000+, and is attached to the Command Hospital โ€” the largest hospital in the Indian Army spread over 105 acres. Admission to the MBBS programme is highly competitive, requiring a strong NEET-UG score followed by a multi-stage AFMC selection process. All MBBS cadets must sign a mandatory 7-year service bond with the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). Over 6,000 doctors have graduated from AFMC to date. On 1 December 2023, President Droupadi Murmu awarded AFMC the President's Colour โ€” the highest honour conferred on any military unit.
