Career Prospects and Internship Support after BAMS

Compulsory Internship

Every BAMS student completes a mandatory one-year rotatory internship as the final part of the degree, undertaken largely within the college's own 150-bed attached Ayurvedic hospital. This internship year exposes graduating students to the Panchakarma department, the Kshara Sutra surgical unit for ano-rectal disorders, and the various clinical departments including Kayachikitsa, Shalya Tantra, Shalakya Tantra, and Prasuti Tantra & Stree Roga, giving them direct patient-facing experience before they register as independent practitioners.

Career Pathways After Graduation

Once registered with the State or Central Ayurveda medical register, BAMS graduates from the college can pursue a range of paths:

• Independent Ayurvedic clinics or nursing homes
• Government AYUSH departments at state or central level
• Established Ayurvedic and Panchakarma wellness hospitals
• Herbal and Ayurvedic pharmaceutical manufacturing companies
• Medicinal herb cultivation under government schemes
• Faculty roles in Ayurvedic colleges and academic institutions
• Research roles in Ayurveda research institutions
• Consultancy practice in India and abroad

Higher Studies

A significant number of BAMS graduates choose to pursue postgraduate specialisation — an MD or MS in a specific Ayurvedic discipline such as Panchakarma, Shalya Tantra, Kayachikitsa, or Prasuti Tantra & Stree Roga — through the All India Ayurveda Postgraduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET). A postgraduate qualification typically opens doors to teaching positions, specialist clinical practice, and senior roles within government Ayurveda hospitals and research bodies such as the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS).
