About Basava Academy of Engineering
Basava Academy of Engineering (BAE), Bangalore, is a private co-educational engineering institution established in 2002 under the flagship of Sri Belimatha Maha Samsthana Socio Cultural and Education Trust. The trust, founded in 1975 by Sree Sree Charamurthy Shivarudra Mahaswamiji, was created with a dedicated focus on providing quality education to students from poor and underprivileged backgrounds — a mission that continues to define the institution's ethos today. Located on Gangondanahalli Main Road, near Peenya Dasarahalli in North Bangalore, the college occupies a 10-acre campus. Its location is particularly advantageous — it sits adjacent to Asia's largest small and medium enterprises industrial hub, the Peenya Industrial Estate, giving students unique access to industry exposure, internships, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The institution is approved by AICTE, recognized by the Government of Karnataka, and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The college offers four-year B.E. programs in four engineering disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering — with a total AICTE-sanctioned intake of 240 seats (60 per branch). Admissions are conducted through KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) and management quota. Minimum eligibility is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with at least 45% aggregate marks. The institution has a strong focus on entrepreneurship development. It runs an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) in collaboration with MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), Bangalore, and AWAKE Bangalore, and has established an Incubation Centre in association with local industries from the Peenya Industrial Estate — a practical advantage that most engineering colleges cannot offer. The campus infrastructure includes well-equipped departmental laboratories for all four branches, a central library housing over 10,000 volumes of textbooks and reference books with subscriptions to 15 international and 24 national technical journals, a spacious reading room accommodating around 125 readers, separate hostels for boys and girls (120 combined capacity), a canteen, and sports facilities. The college has 51 faculty members with qualifications appropriate to their respective departments. The institute's placement cell facilitates campus recruitment for eligible students, with IT and core engineering companies visiting for placements. The college also provides cash incentives to meritorious students based on their performance in VTU examinations, and connects students with government scholarship schemes including SC/ST Post-Matric and SSP scholarships.
