About Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Leelavati Munshi College of Education (BLMCE)

Official website

Bhavan's Leelavati Munshi College of Education (BLMCE) was established in 2016 as the newest constituent institution of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Delhi Kendra, recognised by the NCTE and affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) for its B.Ed. programme. It is located in the Mehta Sadan of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan building on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, near India Gate and Connaught Place. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan itself was founded on 7 November 1938 by Dr. K. M. Munshi with the support of Mahatma Gandhi; its Delhi Kendra was inaugurated on 16 May 1957. BLMCE is named after Late Smt. Leelavati Munshi, a freedom fighter, Gujarati writer and politician (Rajya Sabha member 1952-58) who was married to the founder and was a lifelong participant in the freedom movement. The college currently runs two NCTE-recognised programmes: a two-year B.Ed. (100 seats) for secondary/senior-secondary teacher training, admitted entirely through GGSIPU's CET and counselling, and a two-year D.El.Ed. (50 seats) for elementary teacher training, admitted under SCERT Delhi's own norms. A Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration and Management has been described on the college's own About page as being 'in the pipeline' and is not yet on offer. As a charitable-trust institution, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has voluntarily surrendered 10% of the Management Quota seats in both B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. to the respective affiliating/regulating bodies.
