College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital (CMSDH), popularly known as Sagar Dutta Medical College, is a government medical college, tertiary referral hospital, and research institute established by the Government of West Bengal in 2010 in the northern suburbs of Kolkata at Kamarhati. The institution was set up by converting the existing Sagore Dutt Charitable Hospital and Dispensary โ a historic philanthropic organization founded to serve the poor peasants and industrial workers of Kamarhati. After MCI inspection, the Letter of Permission was received on 30 June 2011 and the first MBBS batch commenced on 1 August 2011. Affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), CMSDH admits 125 MBBS students annually and offers MD/MS programmes across 9 disciplines (28 PG seats), along with BSc Nursing, GNM, ANM, DMLT, DRD, DPT, DCCT, D.OPT, DOTT, ECG, and other paramedical diploma courses. The college is housed in a modern 8-storey academic building on a 17.63-acre campus featuring gallery-type lecture halls, a medical skills lab, departmental museums, state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-stocked central library, and separate hostels for boys and girls. The attached Sagore Dutta Hospital with 500+ teaching beds and Kamarhati ESI Hospital together provide extensive clinical training. Strategically located just 12 km from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and 2.2 km from Agarpara Railway Station, CMSDH enjoys excellent connectivity within the Kolkata Metropolitan Area. Sports & Recreation
The 17.63-acre campus provides open spaces for recreational activities. However, student reviews note that there is no specific dedicated playground or organised sports ground on campus โ this is noted as an area for improvement. In 2025, the AIQ General category closing rank was 26,791. In 2024 it was 19,782. In 2023 it was 18,521. The state quota (WB NEET Counselling) General closing rank in 2025 (Round 3) was 22,418.
MBBS graduates must serve a compulsory 3-year rural service bond in West Bengal. If they fail to fulfil this, they must pay a penalty prescribed by the state government before NMC registration or PG enrolment is permitted. A discontinuation bond is also signed at the time of admission on Rs.100 stamp paper.
The total MBBS tuition fee for the entire 5.5-year programme is INR 40,500 (approximately INR 9,000 per year). Admission fee at joining is approximately INR 6,600. No management or NRI quota exists.
