In 1964, it became a full-fledged MBBS college under the name Dayanand Medical College & Hospital with industrialist H.R. Dhanda as Founder President. DMCH was the first hospital in Punjab to set up a dialysis unit in nephrology service in 1980, and since April 2001, the Hero DMC Heart Institute provides advanced cardiac care.
