About Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad
Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS), Hyderabad, is one of the oldest, most prestigious, and most sought-after private medical colleges in Telangana. Established in 1985 under the Darussalam Educational Trust (DET) — governed by the provision of Article 30(1) of the Constitution of India — DCMS was founded by the late Alhaj Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, a renowned member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and a champion of minority education. Although primarily a Muslim Minority Co-Education College, DCMS admits students from all communities and backgrounds based on NEET merit, and is considered among the top 5 medical colleges in Telangana by student preference and academic reputation. DCMS is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and is affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal (previously under NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada). The college annually produces 150 high-caliber MBBS graduates, and offers 67 PG (MD/MS) seats across 20 departments and 4 super-specialty (DM/M.Ch) seats. With a total of 270 faculty (including Senior Residents and Junior Residents), DCMS maintains a high standard of medical education and clinical training. DCMS is also NAAC accredited. The campus of DCMS is located in Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad — one of the most well-connected areas of the city. The campus is easily accessible by air (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad), rail (Hyderabad/Secunderabad Railway Station), and road from all parts of the twin cities. The infrastructure includes fully equipped lecture halls with audio-visual aids, examination halls, skills laboratory, library and information centre, research facilities, laboratories, gymnasium, sports and games facilities, canteen, grocery and utilities, health centres, and even a mosque within the campus. The central library spans 3,800 square metres with a reading room capacity of 500+ for UG students and 100 for PG students. It houses 23,000 textbooks and reference books, 79 Indian journals, 105 foreign journals, and extensive online access. A second library at Princess Esra Hospital houses 12,000 books with 300-seat capacity and 20 internet-enabled desktops. The two teaching hospitals under DCMS are world-class institutions. The primary teaching hospital is Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre, a 1,000+ bedded super-specialty hospital located in Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad. Spread over 17.5 acres with Cellar + Ground + 7 Floors, Owaisi Hospital has 1,000+ daily OPD patients and is equipped with hi-tech facilities across all clinical, para-clinical, and pre-clinical streams — including state-of-the-art gastroenterology, cardiology, neonatology, orthopaedics, and emergency medicine. The second teaching hospital is Princess Esra Hospital, which provides additional clinical training capacity. Both hospitals provide 24x7 emergency care, ICUs of world-class quality, and internationally standardized diagnostic labs. DCMS also runs Six Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across twin cities (Hassan Nagar, Bhavani Nagar, Ghulam Murtuza Chawni, Hafez Baba Nagar, Musheerabad, and Syed Nagar) providing community healthcare and student training. For residential facilities, DCMS operates Fakhr-E-Millat Hostel — a state-of-the-art hostel with two blocks of 97 rooms each (separate for boys and girls), international standard facilities, standby generator, 24-hour security, and two separate visiting lounges for boys and girls. Hostel accommodation is available for UG MBBS students, interns, junior residents, and senior residents. For MBBS admissions, 60% of seats (90 seats) are under Category A (Competent Authority / Govt Quota) reflecting the Muslim Minority institution status, with 25% under Category B (Management Quota) and 15% under Category C (NRI Quota). MBBS admission is through KNRUHS Telangana centralized NEET UG counselling with application dates 18 July to 16 October 2025 (Round 1). The NEET UG 2024 closing rank for general category in state quota was approximately 1327 (scores ≥520 needed for general category state quota in 2022 reference). DCMS also offers ECFMG and related services, supporting graduates who wish to pursue their medical career in the United States — an uncommon offering in Telangana medical colleges. International student support is also available. The Deccan Alumni Association has chapters in North America (DAANA), Middle East (DAAME), and Europe (DAAE), reflecting the global reach of DCMS graduates. The college publishes the 'Journal of Medical and Allied Sciences' (JMAS) — indexed in peer-reviewed databases — and the 'Deccan Gazette' as a campus newsletter. Placement perspective: The college has a good placement record for postgraduate students. For MBBS students, the primary career pathways are NEET PG (for MD/MS), government service (compulsory rural service bond), and private hospital employment. During NEET 2021-2024 counselling, 15 candidates received allotment at DCMS in various years. The college is rated among the top private medical colleges in Telangana and is recognized as a top 10 Minority Medical College in India.

Placement Highlights 2024
Placement insight from student reviews (Collegedekho): 'The college has a good placement record for postgraduate students, but it is tough for MBBS students to get placed with high packages.' MBBS graduates primarily pursue NEET PG for postgraduate studies or join government service (compulsory rural service bond). DCMS has a unique advantage — ECFMG and related services are available on campus for USMLE-aspiring students. Strong international alumni networks: DAANA (North America), DAAME (Middle East), DAAE (Europe). The 1000+ bed Owaisi Hospital provides significant JR/SR employment for PG graduates. The Management Quota MBBS tuition is Rs.14 Lakhs/year + Rs.3–4 Lakhs hostel = Rs.17–18 Lakhs/year total cost, which students consider reasonable for the quality received.
