About Delhi Technological University
Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), is one of India's oldest and most prestigious technical universities, established in 1941. Originally founded as a technical institution under the Delhi Administration, DCE was granted full state university status by the Government of NCT of Delhi in 2009 and renamed Delhi Technological University. With a legacy spanning over 84 years, DTU has produced some of India's most distinguished engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators — including Vinod Dham (Father of the Pentium chip), Vijay Shekhar Sharma (Founder of Paytm), and actor Sushant Singh Rajput, among others. DTU is a government university fully funded by the Government of NCT of Delhi, making it one of the most affordable and highest-value engineering universities in India. Spread across a vast 164-acre green campus at Shahbad Daulatpur, Bawana Road, Delhi–110042, DTU is conveniently located in Northwest Delhi with good metro and bus connectivity. The campus features a scenic lake, large playgrounds, modern academic blocks, well-equipped research laboratories, sports complex with a swimming pool, basketball courts, cricket grounds, open-air theatre, and the largest waste-to-energy plant in any Indian educational institution in North India. The campus is designed as an eco-friendly institution with plans for green architecture and energy generation from alternative sources. Two new hostels were inaugurated in July 2022, with the campus now accommodating 1,105 girls and 1,600 boys in separate hostel blocks. DTU offers programs across engineering, technology, design, management, science, and economics through 17 academic departments including Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Design, ECE, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Humanities, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Delhi School of Management (DSM), University School of Management & Entrepreneurship (USME), and more. The Vinod Dham Centre of Excellence for Semiconductors and Microelectronics — inaugurated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw — reflects DTU's commitment to cutting-edge research in next-generation technologies. DTU has also been selected by Intel Technology Pvt. Ltd. to join the PlanetLab Consortium alongside Princeton University, University of Washington, and NEC Labs. DTU is one of the TIFAC COREs (Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council's Centres Of Relevance & Excellence) in Fiber Optics and Optical Communication. The university's Training and Placement Cell (TNP) consistently delivers outstanding outcomes — ranked 1st among engineering colleges by Times Engineering Rankings 2020 for placements, DTU sees over 350 companies participate in annual placement drives. The B.Tech highest domestic package in 2025 was INR 85 LPA (B.Tech Software Engineering), with an overall average package of INR 15.75 LPA. Total offers made in B.Tech placements 2025: 1,486. According to NIRF Engineering Report 2024, a total of 2,211 students were placed (1,965 UG + 246 PG). As per NIRF 2025: DTU is ranked 30th in Engineering, 42nd in University category, 62nd Overall, and 13th among State Public Universities. The B.Tech programs are among the most sought-after nationally — for DTU CSE, the JAC Delhi 2025 closing rank was approximately 11,352 (Round 5, Delhi General), making it comparable to several NIT branches. For outside Delhi candidates, the CSE closing rank was around 3,000–4,000 (Overall). The B.Tech total fee for AY2025-26 is INR 2,47,700/year (first year, including tuition of ₹1,63,000 + non-govt. components). With over 100 student clubs and societies, annual tech fests like Engifest, Formula SAE car design, Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV DTU), SAE Mini Baja, ASME HPV, solar car, and an active startup incubation ecosystem, DTU offers a holistic engineering education experience that combines academic rigor, research, and industry readiness.
