Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology for Handicappeds (AITH), Kanpur, was established in 1997 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh with World Bank assistance under the Technical Education Project. It is a unique institute committed to inclusive education where normal and disabled students study together. The institute is recognized under the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995 and Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956. AITH is affiliated with AKTU Lucknow and approved by AICTE and NBA. The entire campus is barrier-free, specially designed for Divyangjans (persons with disabilities). AITH offers 5 B.Tech programmes and 3 Diploma programmes. B.Tech courses (60 intake each) are open to both normal and disabled students with 60% seats reserved for handicapped. Diploma courses (40 intake each) are exclusively for disabled students. B.Tech specializations include CSE, CSE (AI & ML), ECE, Electrical, and Mechanical. The institute also offers free orthopedic appliances, rehabilitation aids, and two sets of uniforms with woolen blazers to all students. B.Tech fee is approximately INR 76,000-78,500 for normal students and INR 61,000 for handicapped students. Total 4-year cost is approximately INR 3,04,000. About 80-90% students avail UP government scholarships reducing effective fee to INR 20,000/year for general and less for others. Placements saw 150+ offers with highest INR 19 LPA, average INR 4 LPA, minimum INR 2 LPA. Top recruiters include Amazon, Dell, JP Morgan, Wipro, Accenture, TCS, Emphasis, Mahindra (special internship for handicapped via Enable India, Bengaluru). Total seat intake is 580 students. Computer labs are equipped with latest PCs and WAN connectivity. Library has approximately 20,000 books.
