About Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow

The university's own administrative and constituent campus occupies close to 50 acres in Sector-11, Jankipuram Vistar, Lucknow. Rather than teaching every student directly, AKTU runs a focused set of constituent units on this campus that admit students without routing them through an affiliated college — the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET Lucknow), widely regarded as its flagship engineering unit; the Faculty of Architecture and Planning; the Faculty of Management Studies; the Faculty of Pharmacy; the Centre for Advanced Studies, which runs newer undergraduate programmes in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and VLSI Design; and the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Design in Noida. AKTU holds a NAAC Grade A+ following reassessment in November 2025, and its Faculty of Architecture and Planning was ranked 39th nationally under the NIRF Architecture and Planning category for 2025.

Academically, AKTU's programme spread is unusually wide. At the undergraduate level it offers B.Tech across roughly 28 specialisations — from mainstream branches like Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering to newer or niche streams such as Artificial Intelligence, AI & Machine Learning, Biotechnology, VLSI Design & Technology, Food Technology and Textile Technology — alongside B.Arch, B.Pharm, BHMCT and integrated BBA+MBA and BCA+MCA tracks. At the postgraduate level it offers M.Tech across more than 30 specialisations, MBA in 10 specialisations, MCA, M.Pharm, M.Arch and M.Design, and it runs a substantial Ph.D. programme spanning 35 disciplines across engineering, management, pharmacy, science, humanities and design. Admission to virtually every programme is channelled through the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) body, which accepts scores from JEE Main, CUET-UG, CUET-PG, NATA, CAT/MAT/CMAT/ATMA and GATE depending on the course, since AKTU itself conducts no centralised UG/PG entrance test of its own (the one exception being its Ph.D. written test and interview).

Because AKTU is fundamentally an affiliating body, placement outcomes are driven independently by each constituent unit and affiliated college rather than by the university as a single employer-facing entity. At IET Lucknow, the flagship constituent college, the 2024-25 season recorded a highest package of roughly INR 49 LPA and an average package in the INR 7 to 8.2 LPA range, with more than 90 recruiters — including TCS, Wipro, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, IBM and Oracle — visiting campus and around 10 international offers extended to students. Outcomes at other AKTU-affiliated colleges vary considerably, from about INR 3 LPA at newer institutions to INR 10+ LPA at well-established private colleges such as JSS Noida, underscoring why prospective students are generally advised to evaluate the specific affiliated college's own placement record rather than AKTU's headline figures alone. Scholarship support for AKTU students is primarily channelled through UP Government post-matric schemes for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates and central NSP schemes for minority students, in addition to GATE stipends for eligible M.Tech scholars and merit-based fee waivers offered independently by many affiliated colleges.
