NRSGAC was established in 1922, making it over a century old. It is one of the oldest functioning government Ayurvedic medical colleges in India and has produced numerous nationally renowned Ayurvedic practitioners and researchers over its 100+ year history.
As a government institution, NRSGAC offers one of the most affordable BAMS programmes in India. As per the AACCC counselling proforma (2023–24), the total admission fee payable at the time of joining is ₹12,457 (one-time). Annual college tuition fees for all three professional years are NIL. Hostel accommodation is available at ₹1,000 per year. No management quota or capitation fee exists.
The college currently admits approximately 60 students annually into BAMS through the state and All India quota counselling, with an additional 15 seats under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category — bringing the total to approximately 75 seats. Of the total seats, 15% are filled through AACCC-UG (All India Quota) and 85% through Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (State Quota).
The college offers MD (Ayurveda) postgraduate programmes. The MD in Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana has been running since 2003 with 5 seats per year. Additional PG specialisations including Dravyaguna Vigyan, Kayachikitsa, and Prasuti Tantra & Stree Roga have also been reported.
