About Ewing Christian College
Ewing Christian College (ECC), Prayagraj, founded in 1902 by Rev. Dr. Arthur Henry Ewing (its first Principal), is one of the oldest colleges in India. Originally a Vernacular School under East India Company governance, it passed to Presbyterian Church administration and was renamed Allahabad Christian College in 1910, later honoured with its founder's name. ECC is a Christian Minority Institution of the Church of North India (CNI), Diocese of Lucknow, managed by the Ewing Christian College Society, and functions as an Autonomous Constituent Post-Graduate College of the University of Allahabad since 1994 (autonomy valid till Academic Session 2028-2029). Its motto is 'Study to show thyself approved unto God' (2 Timothy 2:15). The College is accredited by NAAC (1st Cycle: Grade B++, CGPA 2.83 in 2004; 2nd Cycle: Grade B, CGPA 2.62 in 2013) and was awarded 'College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)' status by the UGC. The campus, on the northern bank of the Yamuna near Sangam, has a total plot area of 36,865 sq. mtr. with 23,511.36 sq. mtr. of open area, hosting well-equipped laboratories, libraries, gardens with fountains, daily Chapel services, NCC, NSS and a Canara Bank branch on campus. From Academic Session 2025-26, ECC has fully implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, adopting multidisciplinary, student-centric learning with Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC) and Value Added Courses (VAC), along with a multiple entry-exit system. ECC runs a Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Commerce and Faculty of Teacher Education, offering B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., BCA, B.Ed., M.A., M.Sc., a Diploma in Laboratory Technology, and self-financed vocational streams (Electronics, Computer Application, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biophysics & Bioinformatics, Physical Education). Admission to B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./BCA Semester-I is through CUET-UG score (or the College's own entrance test for non-CUET candidates); M.A./M.Sc. admission is via PGAT of University of Allahabad; B.Ed. and DLT admissions are via the College's own Entrance Test/Personal Interview, with 50% of B.Ed. seats reserved for Christian Minority candidates. The library (per the official Facilities page) has 15 LAN-connected workstations with remote-server Wi-Fi access, is registered on N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content), and the Centre for Computer Sciences alone has more than 150 computers across two labs. A dedicated Training and Placement Cell (originally constituted as the 'Career Information, Training and Placement Centre' under former Principal Dr. M. Massey) supports internships and campus placement drives for students.
