About Faculty of Architecture, AKTU, Lucknow
Faculty of Architecture and Planning (FOAP), AKTU Lucknow, is one of the most distinguished government architecture institutions in Uttar Pradesh and among the oldest architecture schools in India. As a constituent institute of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), it carries a rich legacy tracing back to 1911 when it was originally part of the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow. In 1976, it was formally separated and established as an independent government faculty dedicated exclusively to professional education in Architecture and Planning. Situated on a 6-acre campus on Tagore Marg within walking distance of Hazratganj, the heart of Lucknow, FOAP benefits from the academic infrastructure and NAAC A+ accreditation of its parent university AKTU. FOAP AKTU holds prestigious recognitions from multiple national regulatory bodies. The faculty is approved by AICTE, recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), accredited under the Council of Architecture (CoA) — the statutory body that regulates architectural education in India — and its M.Plan programme is recognized by the Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI). This multi-body recognition ensures that degrees awarded by FOAP are nationally and professionally respected, enabling graduates to register as licensed architects and town planners across India. The institute offers a comprehensive range of UG and PG programmes. The flagship Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) is a five-year full-time programme with an intake of 96 seats. Admissions are conducted through NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 scores, followed by UPTAC counselling. Eligible candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with a minimum of 50% marks. The B.Arch fee for 2025-26 is ₹90,000 in the first year and ₹85,000 per year from the second year onwards, totalling ₹4,30,000 for five years — one of the most affordable fee structures among architecture colleges in India. At the postgraduate level, FOAP offers four PG programmes each with an intake of 20 seats: M.Arch (Architectural Design/General), M.Arch in Environmental Design, M.Arch in Interior Design, and Master of Planning in Urban and Regional Planning. A Master of Planning in Infrastructure Planning and Management is also available. These programmes span two years and are open to graduates with a minimum 50% score in relevant disciplines. The combined approved PG intake is 80 seats per year. The institute has 51 faculty members including professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and visiting faculty. Key leadership includes Dean and Principal Dr. Vandana Sehgal and HOD Dr. Ritu Gulati. Faculty members are a mix of academics and practicing architects, bringing real-world insights into the classroom. Placement outcomes at FOAP are strong and officially documented through NIRF reports. For the B.Arch batch of 2023-24, 64 out of 81 graduating students were placed with a median salary of INR 4,03,000 per annum. For PG graduates in 2023-24, 28 out of 30 were placed with a median salary of INR 6,91,000 per annum. Past recruiters include LDA (Lucknow Development Authority), Awas Vikas, RCUES, REPL, Node Urban Lab, and various private architecture and planning consultancies. The campus facilities include well-equipped architectural design studios, a central library (foaplibrary.in) with architecture books and digital resources, modern lecture halls, computer labs, model-making workshops, sports facilities, and incubation centre. Hostel is available for both boys (Vishwakarma Boys Hostel — 112 rooms) and girls (Vidushi Girls Hostel — 72 rooms) with an annual hostel fee of ₹25,000–₹27,000. Scholarships and full fee reimbursement are available for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Minority students through the UP Scholarship Portal. FOAP's location in Lucknow — a city renowned for its Nawabi and colonial architectural heritage — offers students unparalleled access to live heritage study sites, enriching architectural education beyond the classroom. For aspirants seeking quality architecture education at government-subsidized fees with national recognition, strong placement support, and a storied legacy, FOAP AKTU Lucknow stands as one of the premier choices in North India.
