About Government Medical College, Banswara
Government Medical College (GMC), Banswara is a newly inaugurated government medical institution located in the tribal-dominated Vagad region of southern Rajasthan. Established in 2024, the college aims to bridge the long-standing gap in access to quality healthcare and medical education in the Banswara divisional headquarters and the surrounding tribal districts of Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and the Rajasthan–Madhya Pradesh–Gujarat trifurcation belt. After getting NMC approval, the first batch of 100 MBBS students was admitted in September 2024, beginning the first year of medical studies. The construction of the main college building was completed on three floors, with finishing, plumbing, electrical, and painting work completed. Boys' and Girls' Hostels and Mess Blocks were also substantially complete by this time. The college is associated with the Government Mahatma Gandhi District Hospital, Banswara — a district-level government hospital that serves as the primary teaching facility. GMC Banswara is affiliated with Marwar Medical University, Jodhpur (per RMGoE), and recognised by NMC. Banswara is located in the Vagad region of southern Rajasthan, bordering Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The district has a significant Bhil and Meena tribal population and is known for the Mahi River, the Banswara lake, and the famous Tripura Sundari Temple. The college's establishment is a major step towards addressing healthcare access for this historically underserved tribal population. Admission is conducted through the Rajasthan NEET UG Counselling Board (rajugneet2025.com) for the 85% state quota, and MCC (mcc.nic.in) for the 15% AIQ. No management or NRI quota. Fees are standard Rajasthan government college fees (~₹65,000–₹70,000/year). Compulsory rural service bond applicable post-internship.
