Government Medical College (GMC), Baran is a newly established government medical institution located in the Hadoti region of eastern Rajasthan. The college was established in 2024 by the Government of Rajasthan as part of its strategic plan to place a government medical college at every district headquarters in the state, thereby democratising access to quality MBBS education and strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of underserved districts. Baran is a district in the Hadoti division of Rajasthan, bordering Madhya Pradesh. The Baran district is known for the Shahabad and Kelwara regions with significant Saharia tribal population — one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) of India. The establishment of GMC Baran is therefore of special significance for the tribal communities of eastern Rajasthan and the MP border belt. As of 2024, the college was in the process of obtaining final NMC approval (noted as 'waiting for NMC approval' by MDMSEnquiry.com in 2024). Multiple 2025 sources cite GMC Baran as 'established in 2024,' indicating that regulatory processes were nearing completion. The first batch of 100 MBBS students is planned once the Letter of Permission (LOP) is formally issued by NMC. The college is affiliated with RUHS, Jaipur, and is to be associated with the District Government Hospital, Baran, which will serve as the primary teaching hospital for clinical training. Infrastructure includes classroom buildings, departmental labs, a library, and hostel facilities for boys and girls under construction. Admissions will be conducted through the Rajasthan NEET UG Counselling Board for 85% state quota and MCC for 15% AIQ. No management or NRI quota. Standard Rajasthan government college fee structure (~₹65,000–₹70,000/year) will apply. Compulsory rural service bond will be required post-internship.
