About Government Medical College, Bharatpur
Government Medical College, Bharatpur — also known as Shri Jagannath Pahadiya Medical College — is a prominent government medical institution established in 2018 under the Rajasthan Medical Education Society (Raj-MES), Government of Rajasthan. The college received its NMC Letter of Permission (LOP) on 25 May 2018. It is affiliated with the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). With an annual MBBS intake of 150 seats, it is one of the larger new government medical colleges in eastern Rajasthan. Bharatpur is historically one of Rajasthan's most significant cities — the seat of the Jat Maharajas, home to the famous Lohagarh Fort (the only Indian fort never captured by the British), and adjacent to the world-renowned Keoladeo Ghana National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Located approximately 55 km from Agra, 55 km from Mathura, and 180 km from Delhi, Bharatpur is the eastern gateway to Rajasthan and well-connected by road and rail. The college is located on National Highway 1 (NH-1) at Rampura Village, which provides excellent connectivity to Jaipur (185 km), Agra, Mathura, and Delhi–NCR. Campus & Infrastructure: The campus spreads over 20 acres of lush green land, housing the main medical college building, teaching hospital, doctors' staff quarters, resident doctor hostel, boys' and girls' hostels, and a playground. The academic block features spacious gallery-type lecture halls accommodating 200 students each, equipped with audio-visual teaching aids. There are examination halls, demonstration rooms, and a Medical Skills Lab. The Institute is fully equipped with clinical laboratories and departmental museums. The library and information centre covers 800 square metres, housing 1,144 books, with separate reading spaces for students and teaching staff, and a digital library section. An auditorium supports academic and cultural events. The annual cultural and sports event FLAMES is a well-known campus tradition at GMC Bharatpur. Teaching Hospital: GMC Bharatpur is attached to a government teaching hospital with approximately 500+ beds. The hospital provides comprehensive clinical services covering General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, OBG, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Community Medicine, and Emergency services. ICUs, operation theatres, diagnostic labs, X-ray, Blood Bank, and 24/7 casualty services are operational. PG Courses: GMC Bharatpur also offers postgraduate MD/MS programmes in 14 disciplines (Anatomy, Community Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology, and other departments). PG admissions are via the Chairman, NEET PG Admission/Counselling Board, Govt. Dental College, Jaipur, for state quota seats and MCC for AIQ seats. Hostel: UG Boys Hostel has 76 rooms; Girls Hostel has 68 rooms. Both are equipped with mess, common rooms, security, and basic amenities. Admissions & Bond: All 150 MBBS seats are government seats — 15% via MCC AIQ and 85% via Rajasthan State Quota (NEET UG Counselling Board Jaipur). No management or NRI quota. During NEET 2021–2024, 10 candidates received AIQ allotment at GMC Bharatpur. After completing MBBS and internship, graduates must serve a compulsory rural service bond as per Rajasthan government norms. Non-compliance requires payment of the bond penalty.
