About Government Medical College, Chhindwara
Government Medical College, Chhindwara — also known as Chhindwara Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) — is a newly established government medical college in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, set up in 2019 under the Central Government's scheme to establish new medical colleges attached to existing district hospitals. Affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU), Jabalpur, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) with a Letter of Permission dated 30 May 2019, the college offers 100 MBBS seats annually. The 31-acre campus features modern state-of-the-art infrastructure including spacious digital lecture theatres (one with 350-seat capacity and four smaller halls seating 180 each), 16 demonstration rooms, eight research laboratories, six department museums, a three-storey air-conditioned central library, an examination hall for 250 students, and separate boy and girl hostels. The attached District Hospital Chhindwara — a 600-plus-bedded multi-specialty hospital — serves as the teaching hospital, averaging over 1,500 outpatients daily and providing students with rich clinical exposure from day one. The institution is designed with provision for future expansion of MBBS seats to 150 and a 750-bed campus hospital.

Placement Highlights 2024
GMC Chhindwara admitted its first MBBS batch in 2019; the first graduating batch (2019–2024) is completing internship. Graduates pursue NEET-PG for postgraduate specialisation or join MP government health services. 3-Storey Air-Conditioned Central Library
A three-storey, fully air-conditioned central library designed for an optimal learning environment. Houses medical textbooks, journals, and digital learning resources. An examination hall within the library complex accommodates 250 students.

Future Expansion Provisions
The college infrastructure has been built with provision for expansion to 150 MBBS seats. A 750-bed campus hospital is also planned on the college premises as a future addition to the current attached district hospital.

GMC Chhindwara currently has 100 NMC-approved MBBS seats. The college building has been designed with provision for future expansion to 150 seats. Of the current 100 seats, 15 are under All India Quota (AIQ) and 85 under MP State Quota.
As of 2024, GMC Chhindwara primarily offers only MBBS. PG courses (MD/MS) have not yet been started. NMC requires a minimum number of graduating batches before PG programmes can be approved. Check the official website for updates on PG programmes.
The teaching hospital is District Hospital Chhindwara — a 600+-bedded upgraded multi-specialty hospital averaging 1,500+ outpatients daily. It has 24x7 emergency and trauma care, ICUs, blood bank, dialysis unit, major/minor operation theatres, and all major clinical departments providing rich clinical exposure for MBBS students.
The approximate NEET 2024 MP state quota closing score for GMC Chhindwara (General/UR category) was around 530 marks. AIQ competition was very limited — only 2 candidates got allotment across 2021–2024. Verify current round-wise cutoffs at dme.mponline.gov.in and mcc.nic.in.
