Government Medical College (GMC), Haldwani — previously known as Uttarakhand Forest Hospital Trust Medical College — is the first government medical college in Uttarakhand, originally established in 1997 as a Forest Department hospital-based institution and subsequently taken over by the Government of Uttarakhand. It holds the proud distinction of being the first postgraduate medical college in Uttarakhand — a regional pioneer in advanced medical education for the Kumaon belt. Affiliated with HNBUMU and recognised by NMC, GMC Haldwani is located on Rampur Road, Haldwani, on a sprawling 90-acre campus. It offers 125 MBBS seats and 74 PG MD/MS seats in 17 disciplines. The affiliated hospitals include Dr. Susheela Tiwari Memorial Hospital (formally inaugurated 28 July 1996, functional from December 26 1995 — 600 beds) and Swami Rama Cancer Hospital & Research Center. Together, these provide exceptional tertiary and oncological clinical training. GMC Haldwani is one of the two most competitive government medical colleges in Uttarakhand for AIQ (alongside Doon Medical College, Dehradun).
